Bridgeport Juniors and Kroger To Host Fifth “Grocery Grab” Fundraiser
For the past four years, the GFWC Bridgeport Junior Woman’s Club has partnered with Kroger's Mid-
Atlantic Division through their Zero Hunger Zero Waste initiative to help fight food insecurity through an
exciting community event. The annual “Grocery Grab” fundraiser has benefitted various Harrison County
backpack programs since 2016.
The past year has brought a variety of unique challenges to the community; the Grocery Grab event has
not been immune to the effects of COVID-19 restrictions. As such, the fundraiser previously planned for
November 2020 will take place on March 25, 2021, in the brand new Kroger location opening soon on
Emily Drive.
“It’s truly shocking to know the number of families and children that go hungry or risk going hungry,”
said Latricia Wolfe, club President. “The GFWC Bridgeport Junior Woman’s Club is honored to have the
support of our community and Kroger to help fight hunger in Harrison County.”
Harrison County Schools has been able to provide food packages to students throughout this
unprecedented school year, which has reduced the immediate need from the populations who normally
receive services from backpack programs. This means that funds raised from the Grocery Grab event this
year may be directed to other similar local needs.
“The Grocery Grab event is something we look forward to being a part of year after year,” said Allison
McGee, corporate affairs manager for Kroger Mid-Atlantic. “We are committed to ending hunger
throughout West Virginia and the support of partners like the Bridgeport Junior Woman's Club helps us to
make that goal a reality.”
Five semi-finalists will be drawn from all tickets sold, and notified on or about February 10, 2021. The
Grand Prize winner will be drawn at the event on February 18, and will be awarded a two-minute grocery
shopping spree (some exclusions apply). The four remaining semi-finalists will receive alternate prizes. In
past years, grand prize winners have often managed to gather over $1,000 worth of groceries during their
shopping sprees.

                                   Grocery Grab Announcement

Due to the number of recent COVID cases at Kroger, the corporate representative reached out to us to request a later date for the event. We agree that this is a wise decision, and the event date has been pushed to March 26th!
